An Original Watercolour – Unframed The Venetian Carnival is a spectacle full of colour and drama. Venetian Carnival – Rosso captures the essence of this spectacular festival. The masked figure dressed in red stands in front of the Bridge of Sighs. I’ve deliberately kept the Venetian architecture understated to keep the focus on the figure. I’ve been fortunate enough to be in Venice on two occasions when I’ve been able to gather reference for a whole body of new paintings. Another one of these paintings is Jester which is also available as a limited edition print. Most of the other watercolours are much smaller studies, around 7″ x 5″ image size. It’s usually a very cold time during the festival, often misty with thick fog. This just seems to add more mood and mystery to the ocassion.
